The Famous Bein Inn (Up for sale)
The Edinburgh office of leading licensed property agents, Christie + Co, has been appointed to handle the sale of The Bein Inn Hotel in Glenfarg, Perthshire. The proprietor, David Mundell, has owned The Bein Inn since 1999 and has decided to retire.
The Bein Inn is located six miles south of Perth and just off the M90 Edinburgh to Perth motorway, in the heart of some of Scotland's finest scenic, sporting and heritage country. The inn was built in 1861 as a resting place for travellers on the traditional route north from Edinburgh to the Highlands. A well known live music venue, the Bein Inn was awarded the Music Pub of the Year Award Scotland 2002 and was runner-up for the Music Pub of the Year Award UK 2004. Offers over £600,000 are sought for the freehold property, which comprises public and lounge bars, reception lounge, 55-cover restaurant or function room and 12 letting bedrooms. There is also two-bedroom owners accommodation and four bedrooms used for staff accommodation. The Bein Inn enjoys an unusual mix of trade, retaining a more traditional client base with the business offering bed and breakfast, morning teas and coffees, bar lunches and evening meals. The inn is also well known as a music venue for pop and rock and attracts artists such as Simon Kirke (Free and Bad Company), Ben Gallagher (Gallagher and Lyle), Gene Parsons (the Byrds), Chip Taylor (the man who wrote Wild Thing), Curtis Stigers Big Brother & The Holding Co, Tony Joe White & Henry McCullough and many more. Denis Hillier, Director of the Edinburgh office of Christie + Co, comments: The Bein Inn offers a rare opportunity for someone, particularly with a musical bent, to acquire a fantastic country inn within a beautiful setting, with the main property built in the 19th Century and retaining much of its original charm. The business trades well showing good profits and has become an important venue in musical circles, as well as much appreciated by the traditional traveller. |

Music Review by Elly Roberts
Artist Paul Rodgers -
Venue Lowry, Salford Quays,
Rating *****
British blues-rock icon Paul Rodgers is still going strong on his UK Tour 2006. In fact, the legendary singers voice is in great shape. This night at the Lyric Theatre, he rolled back the years backed by his sensational all-American band Howard Leese (ex-Heart) and Kurtis Dengler (Electric Shades of Blue) on guitars, drummer Ryan Hoyle (Collective Soul) and bassist Lynn Sorenson. The former Free and Bad Company frontman is going through a serious commercial renaissance via the release of the outstanding Free Forever DVD, Free Chronicles and Free Live At The BBC CDs. With the added benefit of leading Queen last year, all things are pointing towards Rodgers once again. This outstanding gig was a memorable night in many ways. Going back to the early 70s when I saw Free at the Boxing Arena in

Mick Ralphs
In the late 60s, when it suddenly became cool for dudes to wear makeup and glitter while playing unruly riffs,
the Les Paul Junior came along for the ride. Mick Ralphswhose blistering tones powered Mott the Hoople
and set the bar for glam guitarists to followused the Juniors raw edge to keep the bands sound
from getting too campy. In such densely arranged Mott songs as David Bowies All the Young Dudes,
Ralphs proved that a P-90s howl could successfully compete with churning organ, jangling acoustic piano,
and punchy horns. His honking power chords in 1972s One of the Boys formed the blueprint for Bad Company,

A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY :
As one of the few artists to bring three bands to international success, Paul Rodgers is about to launch a sold-out solo UK Tour in early October, including a show at the famed Royal Albert Hall.
This summer, following another sold-out tour, this time as Queen + Paul Rodgers, he hit 8 stages in the U.S, as well as two shows in Japan at the Udo Music Festival. The platinum-selling singer, songwriter has put together a star-studded band for this UK tour with Collective Soul's, Ryan Hoyle on drums, Hearts' Howard Lease on guitar, and 17 year-old Kurtis Dengler on guitar, who is incidentally the same age Paul was when FREE was born.
Rodgers' has been in three major bands throughout his career - Free, Bad Company and The Firm spawning songs such as "All Right Now", "Feel Like Making Love," and "Can't Get Enough". He has also been Grammy-nominated as well.

Review of Simons Bein Inn Show by Ingrid Doneus
The man is usually hidden behind the drum kit laying down the
impeccable rhythms in bands like Free and Bad Company. Given that
what are we supposed to hear and see when doing his solo shows?
I knew what to expect, so I went all the way from Austria to Scotland
just for Simon´s gigs. He went on stage together with Larry Oaks,
formerly with Foreigner.
The Bein Inn, as the venue is called, is the the perfect setting for
intimate concerts, making the artist perform in front of no more than
50 people, thus creating a feeling like he´s playing in your living
room.
No stage entrance exists, the performers use the same door the
audience does.
Enter Simon, taking centre stage, normally inhabited by someone like
Paul Rodgers, he immediately makes contact with the audience in a
very gentle and disarming way. Telling stories of times gone by,
antics from the wild days as well as touching memories from his every
day life struggle with substance abuse and family rows endears him to
all the listeners.
For a start, no drums or percussion are to be seen anywhere. A set of
guitars and a piano, that´s all that is there. And it doesn´t need
any more gimmicks, because Simon is quite familiar with those
instruments.
Displaying songs from various periods with his former bands he also
confronts the audience with his own material from Seven Rays Of Hope,
making you ponder upon your own life and leaving you with your mouth
open regarding all the talents within one single man.
I am a dedicated Paul Rodgers fan, and he is the epitome of all the
songs from Free and Bad Company. Never thought I would accept any
other version, but guess what? After the opening chords of Movin´On I
it never occured to me something was missing, Simon delivered the
songs passionately and perfectly (sorry Paul, I still love your
voice, and will do so forever, but one should never underestimate the
talents of other band members).
Rockers like Feel Like Makin´Love, Bad Company and All Right Now
alternated with songs like Love you so, Shooting Star or Filling The
Void, every one of them performed flawlessly and leaving the audience
stunned. Larry Oakes does very well on back vocals, playing the piano
and doing a brilliant solo in All Right Now.
This is a special year for me. Never before had I seen one of the
members of neither Free nor Bad Company perform live. This year it is
going to be two of them, first it was Simon twice, then it will be
Paul thrice.
But I wonder whether I will gain so much joy from the latter as I got
from Simon. What made Simon´s shows unforgettable was the opportunity
to talk to him during the breaks and after the shows. He is very down
to earth, intelligent and witty with a typical English sense of
humour. He is very affable and a gentle man, a gentleman indeed.
As I could tell from his comments he loves to perform and it seemed
to me he misses it a lot. So we all should try to get Free back on
the road, even with only half the original line up (you certainly all
know why). During the writing of this review I learned Boz Burrell
passed away. No more time wasting, there´s a huge demand for Free´s
music and they were at their best when playing live. Even if that
only remains wishful thinking I do hope Simon will play again at the
Bein Inn. And I´ll be there as well. Thank you so much for those
wonderful performances!
Seize the day!

Very Sad News to report
Fri., Sep 21st, 2006
The 60 yr old Original Bass player of Bad Company
was at home in Costa Del Sol having a relaxed practice last night
while Tam White sang Boz apparently had a heart attack.
Our thoughts are with Bozs family at this very sad and difficult time.
Here is a tribute page on the site where people can offer their thoughts and memories of Boz
From the King Krimson label
Boz Burrell Has Died
:: Posted by Sid Smith on Fri., Sep 22, 2006
Details are now coming in surrounding the untimely death of ex-King Crimson singer and bassist, Boz Burrell who passed away yesterday.
I spoke to guitarist Neil Warden who told me that Boz had died at his Spanish home in Puerto Banus, Marbella, and not Edinburgh as had previously been reported.
Singer Tam White with friend Billy had been visiting Boz, and all three were ready to go out to a small party to play a few tunes with some friends.
Neil went on to say "Tam was sitting in Boz's apartment singing when Boz picked up a guitar and sat back in his seat, and slumped over and passed away. Efforts were made to revive him before the emergency services arrived but no luck."
Neil went on to pay tribute to his fellow musician and friend.
"Very sad, I'm very upset to say the least. Boz was one of the good guys, I'll never forget that impish smile and crazy humor, a sad loss indeed. I used to stand next to him on stage in 'The Groove Connection' and have a great laugh.
He was a great musician and a cool guy to say the least. He was like a long lost older brother to me; we were both into the same music and hit it off from first meeting.
A sad loss indeed. I can't stop thinking of him at present; my heart goes out to Kath his wife."
