Holy 1974! Remember this album? Paul Rodgers, a true Goliath of rock, performed last night in the Fox Theatre,
a small movie theatre-type venue at Foxxxwoods. The show was general admission so of course I was center stage right in front.
Of the 400 or so people that were there, NO ONE was taking any pictures (except for one reporter with a big-deal camera)so I didn't take any either. I definitely didn't want to make Paul mad since I was standing about 1 foot away from him. At 57, Paul's bod is buff. Wearing a white tank top (no visible tats) and white leather jeans with cross appliques, he looks like he could easily run a marathon. Good looks aside, let's talk about his voice. Dimmed or faded with time? Not even close! Paul Roger's voice sounds EXACTLY like it always has. (Maybe he's been able to preserve it because he doesn't scream as much as he hums. He's a rock n roll hummer!) He sang all the anthems including Shooting Star, Can't Get Enough, Silver Blue & Gold, Rock Steady and an intoxicating Satisfaction Guaranteed. He is The KING of rock power-ballads! When he sang Allright Now in the encore, I was instantly transported right back to summer days on the beach lying on my too-small towel with my $10 transistor radio tuned in to WCOZ or 'BCN. The crowd went absolutley nuts! Everybody in the place was singing along and dancing. The cougar next to me was pounding her fists on the stage rocking like there was no tomorrow. When she screamed "OH MY GOD!!" I knew exactly
what she was talking about! I wished he would sing it again 10 more times! How great was the show?
Let's put it this way: I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else in the world. For more info: www.paulrodgers.com
