Rock Icon Andy Fraser Donates Proceeds from Single to Fight AIDS
 news from 2005

11.29.05

(New York, NY) - Legendary FREE bassist, and songwriter of one of Rock's all-time anthems "All Right Now," Andy Fraser today announced that, on December 1, World AIDS Day, he will donate all proceeds from his new single "Healing Hands" to One.org's The ONE Campaign to fight global AIDS and extreme poverty.

The single, which is the first from his first album in almost ten years, will be available for download from his official website as well as from iTunes and CDbaby.com. December 1 will also mark the official international release of the single, which chronicles Fraser's own struggle with the disease as well as a series of other life-changing setbacks over the past several years.

Fraser has lived through cancer, painful neck surgery and clinical depression. "But it becoming HIV-positive was which really forced me to finally take stock," he says. His hope is that fans of his music and those committed to AIDS research will seize upon this opportunity and continue to make a difference."

Written as a tribute to the people who helped him through his hard times, "Healing Hands" is part catharsis, part spiritual awakening. Asked how he came to write it, Fraser explains that the song is part of the album's song cycle, which in the same fashion as the epistolary novels of English literature, offers a series of messages to Fraser's loved ones about who he really is and how he finally discovered his true nature.

"In the back of my mind I guess I always meant to record them," Fraser adds, "but what pushed me over the edge was that at the beginning of the year there were all these rumors, especially in the English media, and Internet that I had died of AIDS. An English reporter emailed me and said 'I was just about to write your obituary, do you have a statement?' Then the phone started ringing and it got pretty crazy. Some of my relatives were totally distraught. I felt I had to let people know I was alive so it was like this was a sign from God, now is the time. All this stuff I had been writing, I decided to release it."

"Healing Hands," in particular, is quite a departure from Fraser's past. Mixing Blues, Rock and African music with confessional lyrics brimming with hard-won wisdom, the song draws upon Fraser's hard-rocking '70s roots while extending them into the 21st century.

Like the album itself, by the time you finish listening to "Healing Hands," it's as if you've become of friend of Fraser's, entering his life, listening to his hopes and fears, meeting many of the most important people in his life and how he feels about them in a very personal way.

To download a copy of "Healing Hands," or to find our more about Andy Fraser and his new album, go to: www.andyfraser.com.

More than 25 years after sending shockwaves through the rock and roll world,

Def Leppard continues to sell out arenas all over the globe. "Yeah!" -- Def Leppard's first studio

album since 2002 -- pays tribute to the arena-rock heroes' own idols, from T. Rex to David Bowie to the Faces.

Def Leppard puts its signature spin on classic anthems like "Rock On" and "Hanging on the

Telephone" throughout "Yeah!", and the end result is an album that any fan of huge guitars

Tues 23rd May

Paul Rodgers

May 20, 2006

Fox Theatre, CT

Review by Bill & Barbara

What a Great Show!   Thank you Paul!   It once again was a wonderful night, rocking as always!

We were extremely curious to hear the set for the night and were extremely pleased.

As were the 2,000 other fans in the room.

The Theatre was a perfect venue to see Paul especially after returning from the Queen tour.

It was great to hear him play his music live once again.   The set list itself we really enjoyed.

The set included Free, Bad Co. The Firm,

as well as his solo material.  It satisfied the newer fans and really satisfied die-hard fans, as ourselves.

There were quit a few surprises and the first didn’t take long.

He opened up the show with Closer from the first Firm album,

and then it was Rock Steady, followed with Run With the Pac.

All were great to hear and certainly had the crowd up and going.

The next song started with Howard Leese and the guitar intro to Simple Man.

That was awesome and there was more to come. Good Lovin Gone Bad was next.

We personally never heard this one live (and always wanted to), needless to say, we were not disappointed.

Then there was The Firm’s Radioactive and Satisfaction Guaranteed.

Howard’s guitar effects on the Satisfaction intro were really cool.

Then another surprise came.  Silver, Blue & Gold.

This one started out with Paul on the piano and basically doing most

of the song himself before being joined by the rest of the band towards the end.

Howard at one point was playing the mandolin. The song was beautiful and one of our favorites to hear live.

Great Job.   Speaking of the piano, Bad Company was next.

It doesn’t seem to matter how many times we hear this song,

it’s always a pleasure.  A Free song, Fire & Water came next.  Excellent.

Then our favorite surprise of all – Little Wing!

We love the way Paul sings this song and his arrangement of it, the way he blends this song

into Angel is amazing and feels like it was always meant to be!

After this many Bad Co. songs followed such as Feel Like Making Love,

Shooting Star, Can’t Get Enough and Rock n’ Roll Fantasy.

By this time the house was up dancing and really enjoying the show.

All Right Now followed and was the last song prior to the encore.

All Right Now never fails and is definitely one of the best rock and roll songs ever!

Then the encore, Saving Grace from his solo album “Now and Live”.

Man that was great!  The intro to the song was fantastic and we never heard it done that way.

We recognized the melody immediately and just loved the way it was done.

The final number was Ready for Love.  By this time we really didn’t think we would hear this one,

what another great surprise.  The set had us on our toes, right till the very end.

What a great night.  Paul himself was stunning as usual!

It is obvious to all who witnessed the show that he’s truly on top of his game.

He is in great shape, body and soul!  He is the greatest singer of all time and you can feel that he loves what he does.

Once again we were thrilled to meet with Paul after the show and as always he

was hospitable to all his fans and took the time out to take pictures and sign autographs.

He really loves what he does and truly loves his fans.

Thanks Paul.  Can’t wait to see you again.

HEAVY LOAD

HEAVY LOAD The Ultimate Story of Free
by David Clayton and Todd K. Smith

Turn the pages of time back to 1968 when 17 year-old Paul Kossoff joined 18 year-old Paul Rodgers

on a make-shift stage at the Fickle Pickle for an inspired blues jam and who would have thought it meant much at all.

Or the infamous meeting of the pair with 18 year-old drummer,

Simon Kirke, and the elfin bassist, Andy Fraser, then only 15, for a loose set at London's Nags Head pub.

In the years that have elapsed since the bands demise in 1973, Free have risen to the upper pinnacle of rockdom with many

wondering how such a young band could have written such timeless classics. Their star shines bright as one of the true

pioneering bands to have affected three generations. Quotes Island Record founder

Chris Blackwell, “They were the root of pop rock's most powerful music”.

Now, for the first time, a beautifully crafted book has painted the landscape of the tumultuous rise

and fall of this primer blues-rock band. Written by David Clayton and Todd K. Smith, the narrative guides t

he reader through the foundation and early influences that inspired four young musicians to combine

forces and plunge headlong into the late sixties revolving music scene.

Holy 1974! Remember this album? Paul Rodgers, a true Goliath of rock, performed last night in the Fox Theatre,

a small movie theatre-type venue at Foxxxwoods. The show was general admission so of course I was center stage right in front.

Of the 400 or so people that were there, NO ONE was taking any pictures (except for one reporter with a big-deal camera)so I didn't take any either. I definitely didn't want to make Paul mad since I was standing about 1 foot away from him. At 57, Paul's bod is buff. Wearing a white tank top (no visible tats) and white leather jeans with cross appliques, he looks like he could easily run a marathon. Good looks aside, let's talk about his voice. Dimmed or faded with time? Not even close! Paul Roger's voice sounds EXACTLY like it always has. (Maybe he's been able to preserve it because he doesn't scream as much as he hums. He's a rock n roll hummer!) He sang all the anthems including Shooting Star, Can't Get Enough, Silver Blue & Gold, Rock Steady and an intoxicating Satisfaction Guaranteed. He is The KING of rock power-ballads! When he sang Allright Now in the encore, I was instantly transported right back to summer days on the beach lying on my too-small towel with my $10 transistor radio tuned in to WCOZ or 'BCN. The crowd went absolutley nuts! Everybody in the place was singing along and dancing. The cougar next to me was pounding her fists on the stage rocking like there was no tomorrow. When she screamed "OH MY GOD!!" I knew exactly Getimage

what she was talking about! I wished he would sing it again 10 more times! How great was the show?

Let's put it this way: I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else in the world. For more info:  www.paulrodgers.com

Hardrock Hallelujah

From Finland

Winners of the Eurovision Song contest

When it comes to the Eurovision Song Contest, Finland is better known for its failures than for its successes.

There is no doubt, however, that this year’s Finnish Eurovision entry will go down as one of the most engaging moments in the history of the competition. Win or lose––more probably win––the song Hard Rock Hallelujah and its performer Lordi will certainly be the one thing every viewer around the continent will remember from the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest Final, to be held on May 20 in Athens.

Hard Rock Hallelujah sounds nothing like most Eurovision entries. As the title promises, the song is melodic hard rock, a genre seldom associated with Eurovision. Lordi––the name applies both to the group and its lead singer––looks even less like an ordinary Eurovision contestant: more like a heavily made up monster hard rock band along the lines of KISS or Twisted Sister, or a group of characters from a gory 1980s splatter movie.

Foxwoods welcomes Paul Rodgers on May 20, for one night only in the Fox Theatre. One of the most popular of all rock bands, Rodgers' six multi-platinum albums with Bad Company have spawned such enduring radio classics as 'Rock 'n Roll Fantasy', 'Shooting Star', 'Run With The Pack', and 'Rock Steady', all written by Paul Rodgers. A note of interest, on 'Rock 'n Roll Fantasy' Paul played all of the guitar parts. The group's popular greatest hits compilation '10 From 6' remains an essential primer for fans throughout the world. From the Spring of 1998 to the present Paul continues to tour with a sizzling band that creates a buzz wherever they play. With Howard Leese on guitar, from Heart, drummer Jeff Kathan and bassist Lynn Sorensen, Paul notes, "Fans are embracing this band like never before."

SHOOTING STARS on the rise up!!!!

Wolfmother Debut At 22 On American Chart

by Daniel Zugna

May 15
2006

Stoner-rock heavyweights Wolfmother have made a significant impression on the American Billboard chart, with their eponymous CD debuting at #22 this week.

The album sold 34,005 copies in its first week. As a comparison, the debut CD of fellow retro-rockers Jet peaked at #26 on the same chart. ‘Wolfmother’ also debuted at #25 in the UK.

The rise of Wolfmother is showing no sign of abating. Their track ‘Love Train’ – a b-side to ‘White Unicorn’ in Australia, but an album track in the US and UK – features on the new iTunes and iPod ad. The band will also be supporting The Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth in Detroit, and have been included in the Netherlands and Belgium legs of Pearl Jam’s world tour.

YOUR REPLIES TO YOUR QUESTIONS

FROM PAUL RODGERS.

1)
Dear Paul,
When will the fans get some new material from the best singer in the world?

KARIM  Thank you , thats a sweet  question "best singer in the world ", but I'm not sure what Celine Dionne  is up to  these days.
As for me  I'm working on new material .  Now  that the dust has settled a little from the fairly heavy recent  touring schedule.  I'll  be doing some summer  solo dates  with Howard Leese and the boys and I plan to include some new material then.  Queen and I  did a new  song of mine on the  US/CDN  tour  "Take Love".  As  yet no plans to record.

2) WILL THERE EVER BE A BAD CO REUNION? LOOKING FORWARD TO CHICAGO'S SHOW!
THANK YOU FOR YEARS OF GREAT MUSIC
 KIM

KIM   I'm looking forward to Chicago as well it'll be  nice to be back with my  band for some dates.
Bad Co. , well  Mick Ralphs retired from the road  and Boz is doing his  jazz thing and I'm  fine with that.  There's just so much you can do.  But I don't see it      happening.

3). What do you value most in life, what are the remaining aims for the
  rest of your life?
  Love Ingrid

Thank you Ingrid. Thats  a big deep question and I  would say peace of mind.

4) .
Short, sweet, simple: What's your middle name ? Julie

JULIE  I  was named  after  my father ,  they  called me  Dad.  Joking aside , my father's name and  my middle  name  is Bernard.

5)
Paul:
Would you consider doing a "one-off" type show or TV special of your music in an unplugged or intimate setup? ALAN

Thanks Al.  Yes  actually I was asked to do a TV/DVD  Special by Omni Broadcast that I had put on hold for the past 2 years.  There is much planning and behind the scenes leg work that goes into a project like that.  That  vacation I need  seems further and further away. !!

6)
If you could have dinner with any five people, deceased or alive....who would that be? Hollie

Thanks!!!
Thanks Hollie.  I don't often eat with dead people, dead beats  maybe...  yeah I'm just kidding.
Otis Redding/Jimmy Hendrix/ John Lee Hooker/Depak Chopra.  I would't do much talking though,  I'll be listening.

7)
How do you feel about the music Stephen and Jasmine are making together, and do they take your advice?
Regards
  KAREN
Thanks Karen.   Well of course I'm a little biased but I love some of the songs they have  written.  This is a tough business and you kind of have to find your own way in it.  Like life.  I'm always ready to help anyway I can.

8)
If there was one song in history that you could have contributed too, which would it be and why? Marci
MARCI  One of the songs that  moved  me  greatly was Witney Houston's  version of  " I  will always love you"  written  by Dolly Parton.  Just beautiful.

9)  You have written so many song over the years ...Can we expect a Collection of the best of PAUL RODGERS on DVD sometime in the future.??

 Lucy

Thanks Lucy.  Yes I'm sure its only a question of  time - the  right time  to  produce something along  those lines.

10)
"When will we see you back in the UK for a solo tour?"  Arthur

Thanks Arthur.  I need to get my breath back from the recent touring and I'm focusing on some up  coming US  Solo dates  but England and the English fans are  very dear to me and  there will be  a tour  in the  future.

 JamBase Review

Super 400: Live 05 (Electric Mombie Music) The pictures of this upstate New York trio inside the booklet show folks utterly enslaved, utterly blasted by the power of rock. Right on! It should hit you where you live, especially on a live set.

Super 400 are a heady three-piece in the colloquial sense – big bong-hittin' goodness pulled from their instruments with dirty nails. Touchstones include Free and Thin Lizzy, bands that worked soul into their rock and mused aloud about the universe. You might also pick up strains of Led Zeppelin, the Isley Brothers, and Sly Stone (who gets a serious nod on their version of "Que Sera Sera"). Singer-guitarist Kenny Hohman's vocals are beautifully controlled like Paul Rodgers or Badfinger's Pete Ham. Lori Friday's popping, aggressive bass and Joe Daley's "When-The-Levee-Breaks" heavy drumming keep things thumpin' even on contemplative numbers like "All Is Right."...

Mostly you'll need a bungie cord and a couple valium to keep your arms from playing wild air guitar. Then again, maybe you should just windmill in your living room and enjoy their groove.

RISE

 Uncertain Wonders

Albums   •  Downloads   •  Rise Website

About the artist:
Greetings from the beautiful Scottish West Coast Island of Bute, home to the alt.folk band RISE.'Uncertain Wonders' has been described in America as 'a stunning debut album and it's getting a lot of well-deserved airplay around the globe'. The band has also been described in America as 'ecletic, original, inventive, very musical and highly evocative'. One DJ in Sacremento said: 'I appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry that goes into your music. Thank you, and I'm looking forward to exposing my listeners to it.' 'A bright spot in the folk music arena that brings the magic of Scotland to your ears. It's well produced and Debbie's voice will touch your heart' (Steven John, Internet Radio Free Kansas, USA. www.tafcommedia.net)

Multi-instrumentalist, Gerry Geoghegan is the band's guitarist and has an amazing CV, which spans Rock, Folk and most contemporary forms of music to be found in Scotland today. His playing is magical, full of feeling as well as being powerful and steeped in his ever-changing eclectic taste.

Elaine McCombe's bass playing, which is driving and full of subtlety, complements this. Elaine originally played with the Glasgow-based, all-girl Folk group Tullibardine. She also plays guitar when RISE performs live, as well as providing lovely vocal harmonies.

Kris Manvell has been in the engine room of many Rock and Punk bands on the London circuit. Kris plays drums and percussion on the album as well as some keyboard noodling.

The band's sound is given cohesion and meaning by the stunning vocals of Debbie Dawson. Debbie brings genuine feeling to the songs and her performance is passionate and beautiful. The band is the perfect vehicle for her voice.

For more information about Rise, telephone Kris Manvell on 01700-505357, or send your e-mail to: [email protected]

They broke attendance records at
several massive venues in Florida and Alabama as well as selling out Madison Garden within a day!

Their first three albums had all reached platinum status. However it was only two and half years since

their first classic album “Bad Co” had been released and their rise to superstardom

had been one of the swiftest ever.

Never before released the master tapes of this live concert have been supplied from MICK RALPHS

personal archives as well as photos from his own collection for the 20 page CD booklet.
